In March, as part of the Association for Project Management’s Charity Initiative, a group of delegates from a range of different smaller charities took on the APM Project Management Qualification training course and exam with Provek. Amy Hope, Fundraising Manager at Care for the Carers, successfully passed and achieved the APM PMQ. We spoke to Amy to hear about her experience of the course, and find out the reasons as to why she thought the course would be a good opportunity and how she is now implementing the skills and knowledge gained into her daily work.
What benefits did you perceive the Project Management Qualification would offer you?
“It would give me understanding and processes to follow in areas that I have not had much experience in, such as risk management, and quality control. It would provide me with processes and templates for working in areas such as governance, project life cycles and communication”.
What did you most enjoy about the training course?
“It was interactive, the instructor did not just talk at us- which made it easier to learn and helped me draw on other people’s experiences. Blended option works really well as well, because it isn’t overwhelming, you can go at your own pace initially and then go into more detail on the classroom days and put what you’ve learned into practice with the practice exam questions. It also means that class members can support one another, and the trainer is very good at providing an environment to enable this to happen.”
How did you find the knowledge and delivery of your trainer?
“First rate. The trainer understood the course material really well, and he was very patient with us all and willing to be flexible- focussing on the topics that we were most concerned with.”
Have you found that you have used and implemented the knowledge gained from the course?
“Yes, we came to the end of our three-year fundraising strategy, and I used the ideas from governance and ‘gate reviews’ to review this strategy and help us decide on an action plan going forward.”
How would you describe the communication and support from Provek?
“Really good, they got back quickly, happy to answer questions, provided solutions and were always very polite and supportive.”
