Background
David Amaku is a project manager at Network Rail, with over 30 years’ experience in managing projects.
David applied for chartered accreditation, to demonstrate a measure of credibility and commitment to professional practice.
David chose Provek’s specialist support to provide personal coaching and mentoring throughout his written application and interview.
Why did you decide on applying for chartered accreditation/what does it mean to you?
Though a Chartered Civil Engineer, I found myself in project management roles. I wanted to demonstrate a degree of competence and should do this formally. My view is that ChPP demonstrates an extra measure of credibility and commitment. It also complements my Civils Chartership.
Why did you choose Provek chartered specialist support?
I had not come across Provek before, but when I contacted them, I was impressed for three main reasons. Firstly, my telephone enquiry was responded to in a professional, helpful and friendly manner. Secondly the approach that Provek took was to assess (by questionnaire) if I had reached the level of competence and experience for ChPP. Thirdly the discussion about fees and which package was appropriate for my needs was the final (not first !!) topic of conversation.
What did you find most useful in the support you received during writing your application form?
I had previously completed the ChPP application form (and scored a very low mark). The constructive critique, grammatical suggestions and ensuring that the narrative was very clear about what was my role / involvement was a key factor to ensure that my resubmission was acceptable.
What did you find most useful in the interview preparation support?
There were three items that I found useful. The most useful being the “mock interviews” that the Provek coach carried out. Practice on the responses to Professional and Technical competencies was essential in preparation for the interview, both in terms of practise and the difference language and mindset for each type of question. The Provek coach also assumed two roles during the mock interview to provide practise in responding to the different personality types during the interview. The outcome was that the interview was a pleasant affair with “no surprises”.
Would you recommend this Provek training to another ChPP applicant (if yes, why)
I would (and have) recommended Provek. Their approach is clear, professional and was tailored to my experience. And also, very good value for money.
