Why did you choose the Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship?
Having completed Prince2 practitioner, I still found myself having gaps in my project knowledge – particularly within practical application.
I took upon myself to address to my line manager that I would like to further enhance my project management knowledge and its practical application and sign up to apprenticeship and the rest is history!
What did you enjoy most about the programme?
The group was very mixed and based all over the UK, therefore it was interesting to listen and learn from fellow (current/future) project professionals.
The tutor was very engaging, friendly, approachable and most of all motivating – especially at the times when you feel overwhelmed with work or course content.
I also liked the structure – the workshops and 1-2-1 calls during the course helped me to stay on track and motivate me.
How has the programme supported you in your role and career progression?
Following a successful completion of the course (I was awarded with a distinction grade!) I was promoted from Junior Project Manager to National Projects and Customer Implementation Manager.
What challenges have you faced during the Apprenticeship? How have you overcome these?
The biggest challenges for me personally were holidays and balancing my studies with peaks in my workload as my work tends to fluctuate.
I would allocate extra time to ensure I complete my course work. I also realised prioritising was very important, particularly prior to the PMQ exam.
All in all, I would say prioritising and blocking time out helps a lot. Also using a non-work laptop may help to avoid emails and messaging when allocating study time.
What advice would you give to anyone considering enrolling on to the programme?
I would advise anyone interested to enrol to the programme. It is best of both worlds – practical and theoretical. There is lot of positive support from your tutor. Everyone on the course is new and you grow within your group as the course progresses. It is widely recognised and therefore it opens a lot of future opportunities for growth.
